Well it’s that time of the year again when the NFL season comes to a soul crushing end. The Indianapolis Colts lose the big game, oh those dreaded words i really did not want to hear. Both teams played great football but in the end the Saints delivered and the Colts didn’t there really isn’t much more to it.

I really do hate it though that people start talking about a carreer going down the drain because they lost the big game. Headlines like “Manning’s Legacy Broken” really piss me off. I think that Peyton Manning is ( very arguably) one of the best QB in NFL history , I think he had an outstanding season and I firmly believe that one loss, even a superbowl loss, will send all of the work he has done down the drain. I’m trying very hard no to sound like a fanboy here but I really do believe that a single action or a single game or a single bad call can end anyone’s carrer or rep. There are far too many variables playing out there that it would be foolish to pin the loss on one specific decision/person/pass. Football is played as a team so you win as a team and you lose as a team, there is no individual glory.

Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints on winning they really did deserve it. They also played an outstanding season. Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts on getting to the SB and giving the best out there. I’m still proud of you guys.

GO COLTS!

Sunday Night’s game was, for lack of better words, OUTSTANDING. It represented very well what the NFL is all about. Great plays being played, tough calls being called and 2 very good teams playing their A game and leaving everything on the playing field…and of course all being topped by a Colts victory. This game was intense to the very last second, when the Pats decide to go for it (not the best decision they could´ve made) on 4th and 2 only to be stopped by the Colts defense. It´s then when the Offense takes over and starts playing their very A game which ended in a touchdown and with the Colts winning.

Now there where several times during the game, well most of the game, where things looked like it was going to be all over for the Colts, the Pats where moving the ball, catching the passes. The Colts offense could match what the Pats where doing but still they managed to remain in the game. Te better explain this I´m going to quote the words of BigBlueShoe over at Stampede Blue

The Patriots were dominant in the first half of the game, scoring 24 points while using a game plan that attacked Indy’s injury-riddled secondary. But, as we Colts fans know all to well, it is not how you start. It’s how you finish. In the fourth quarter, the Patriots disintegrated like wet tissue paper right in front of our eyes. The Colts outscored them 21-10 in the fourth, striking with TDs on two very quick drives. Also in the fourth quarter, with a 31-14 lead, the Patriots ran the ball only 6 times for 16 yards (2.6 a carry). And on the offensive drive following Joseph Addai‘s TD to cut the Patriots lead to 6, the vaunted Pats offense stalled after Jerraud Powers nearly (and likely should have) picked off Tom Brady’s sideline pass and returned it for a TD.

So yes! Go Colts! They are for real and even though this is just 1 of 16 games it sure felt like a AFC Championship game. Or as NFL.com says in its game-awesomeness-meter: Memorable.

Provided by NFL.com

Things to worry about

The Colts have played mediocre to average teams this season and they have not won by an avalanche of TD’s. The truth is that the Colts have had a hard time beating teams like Houston, San Francisco and even though they are undefeated at the moment thay have done so with a team that seems to struggle at times. By no means is it time to lay back and enjoy the ride, it is time to keep up the hard work. We know the Ravens are a very tough team, and that the Colts can’t just breeze through the Texans and the Titans are on the rise winning and winning. And quite honestly being this far into the season and still remain undefeated well, you wanna try and stay that way.

Cheers!

We are entering week 9 in the NFL´s regular season and we still have two undefeated teams: The Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints, there’s a debate going on on who is the better team. I am absolutely convinced the Colts are a far better team than the Saints (after all I am a Colts fan). Now being honest and putting fanaticism aside i think it is very hard to tell who is a better team. Each one has its pros and cons.

Indy Colts

First you gotta admint they do have a great QB. To illustate this i´m going to quote John Oehser:

When many NFL quarterbacks have “off days,” they throw four interceptions and their teams lose 31-10. When Peyton Manning has an “off day” — and the term, in this case, is used somewhat sarcastically — he completes 31 of 48 passes for 347 yards and a passer rating of “only” 86.0 and his team wins 18-14.

The QB is nothing without it´s receivers which in this case we have 4 who get the job done outstandingly.

Even though the Colts Defense is not the best in the league I saw here the it is the best at NOT letting their opponents score allowing only 91 points so far. yeah maybe time of possesion is an important stat or maybe you think that yards allowed but the defense´s main objective is NOT ALLOWING THE OTHER TEAM TO SCORE. In this the Colts are number 1.

Running game. Well the problem is, there basically is none! Other teams in NFL use it to complement their passing game but not the colts netting an (un)impressive 784 ranking them 17 in the whole league. But, hey! last year the Lions ran for 2,754 yds and they didn´t win one single game.

New Orleans Saints

Drew Brees is a great QB leading the league in TD passes and second (Big Ben boing #1) in yards gained per pass. They have a great rushing game scoring 14 TDs times for a total of 1,073 yds. All in all I think they are a great team with very few defects.

7 – 0

Even though both teams have the same winning record i think the Saints have proved beaten very solid teams like Philadelphia, New York Giants and Atlanta. Beating these teams is no easy task and they have proven that they are for real. For the Indy Colts the schedule has been lighter being the Texans the strongest team they have faced. So Colts have a hard time ahead going against the Patriots, Ravens, and a Texans team that is on the rise. Indy is yet to prove itself against teams that are of playoff quality. Only then will we know for sure what they are made of.

For me this is an easy question: The Colts!
