We are entering week 9 in the NFL´s regular season and we still have two undefeated teams: The Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints, there’s a debate going on on who is the better team. I am absolutely convinced the Colts are a far better team than the Saints (after all I am a Colts fan). Now being honest and putting fanaticism aside i think it is very hard to tell who is a better team. Each one has its pros and cons.

Indy Colts

First you gotta admint they do have a great QB. To illustate this i´m going to quote John Oehser:

When many NFL quarterbacks have “off days,” they throw four interceptions and their teams lose 31-10. When Peyton Manning has an “off day” — and the term, in this case, is used somewhat sarcastically — he completes 31 of 48 passes for 347 yards and a passer rating of “only” 86.0 and his team wins 18-14.

The QB is nothing without it´s receivers which in this case we have 4 who get the job done outstandingly.

Even though the Colts Defense is not the best in the league I saw here the it is the best at NOT letting their opponents score allowing only 91 points so far. yeah maybe time of possesion is an important stat or maybe you think that yards allowed but the defense´s main objective is NOT ALLOWING THE OTHER TEAM TO SCORE. In this the Colts are number 1.

Running game. Well the problem is, there basically is none! Other teams in NFL use it to complement their passing game but not the colts netting an (un)impressive 784 ranking them 17 in the whole league. But, hey! last year the Lions ran for 2,754 yds and they didn´t win one single game.

New Orleans Saints

Drew Brees is a great QB leading the league in TD passes and second (Big Ben boing #1) in yards gained per pass. They have a great rushing game scoring 14 TDs times for a total of 1,073 yds. All in all I think they are a great team with very few defects.

7 – 0

Even though both teams have the same winning record i think the Saints have proved beaten very solid teams like Philadelphia, New York Giants and Atlanta. Beating these teams is no easy task and they have proven that they are for real. For the Indy Colts the schedule has been lighter being the Texans the strongest team they have faced. So Colts have a hard time ahead going against the Patriots, Ravens, and a Texans team that is on the rise. Indy is yet to prove itself against teams that are of playoff quality. Only then will we know for sure what they are made of.

For me this is an easy question: The Colts!
